RUSTREEF ISLES

Perched off the northern tip of the Storm Islands, the Rustreef Isles are a jagged, smoke-choked sub-archipelago bound together by ocean currents, treacherous reefs, and non-stop industrial madness. Though officially recognized as part of the Storm Islands, no one mistakes Rustreef for the mainlands. It is the noisy, dangerous, and explosive heart of goblin ingenuity - home to the opportunistic and notoriously unhinged Skywright Cartel, a mostly friendly group of goblins who reside in the southern city of Boomport.

Scrapspire

Dominating the main island’s skyline is Scrapspire, a massive central mountain that barely resembles natural rock anymore. Over decades of dumping, scavenging, and chaotic construction, its slopes have been almost entirely encased in mountains of rusting iron, discarded gears, and ticking debris. The goblins have carved a sprawling labyrinth of tunnels, rickety catwalks, and crude elevator pulleys straight through its trash-choked core, turning the mountain into both a fortress and an open-air quarry for raw materials.

A winding, treacherous mountain path made of rusted iron plates, suspended catwalks, and crushed rubble snakes its way up toward the center of the mountain. Halfway up the winding, junk-strewn path of Scrapspire, the open air gives way to a shadowed ravine carved directly into the mountain's trash-choked flank. At the end of this path stands The Spark-Breaker Gate.

Designed by the paranoid Rust-Spike Cartel to keep both denizens of Boomport and rival magic-users out, the gate features massive grounding capacitors. Any magical spark, electric spell, or volatile black-powder ignition triggered near the door gets instantly absorbed and redirected into massive shock-coils - often zapping whoever tried to force their way through.

Chittering Abyss (DUNGEON)

Beyond the Spark-Breaker Gate lies The Chittering Abyss, the subterranean stronghold of the Rust-Spike Cartel. Named for the incessant, echoing din of metal chisels, clanking gears, and frantic goblin chatter that bounces through its dark tunnels, the Abyss is a dark mirror to Boomport’s industrial charm. Here, deep beneath the trash-heaps of Scrapspire, lies Grimhollow - a chaotic, multi-tiered underground city of suspended scrap-shacks, bubbling slag pits, and shadow-draped alleyways.

Unbeknownst to the outside world, the Rust-Spike Cartel doesn't just build with iron - they graft dark magic straight into their machinery. Empowered by the corrupting energy of the Void, these unhinged goblins merge scrap metal, black-powder technology, and dark-matter glyphs to forge terrible Void-infused war machines, lethal death-traps, and monstrous constructs designed to wipe out their Skywright rivals.

BOOMPORT

Sitting on the sheltered southern bay - facing the main Storm Island - lies Boomport, the bustling, chaotic capital of the Rustreef Isles. Built on tiered docks made of salvaged timber and iron plating, Boomport is a hive of noise, black powder smoke, and haggling merchants.

It acts as the primary trading bridge between Rustreef and the rest of the Storm Islands. Ships come here to buy goblin explosives, cheap refined scrap, and heavy machinery, while importing timber, freshwater, and foodstuffs that the goblins desperately lack.

The Sludgeworks & The Scrapyard

The western coastline and its off-shore Islet form Rustreef’s heavy industrial hub - and its biggest environmental hazard. The operations here represent the core engine of Rustreef’s power and wealth, making the goblins who work these grounds viciously protective. Any outsiders caught trespassing without explicit, high-level clearance from the Skywright Cartel are met with flying scrap, explosions, or worse.

The Sludgeworks
: Located along the western shore, this sprawling network of brass pipes, copper stills, and churning refineries processes raw slick-oil pumped from deep ocean trenches into high-grade volatile fuel, blasting powder, and volatile explosives. The air here perpetually smells of sulfur and scorched oil.

The Scrapyard
: Just across a narrow bridge lies an entire satellite island dedicated solely to junk. The goblins have encircled the entire islet with fences made of wood and welded iron plates to prevent outsiders from touching their valuable scrap, and possibly the high tides from washing away their spoils. It is a dense, maze-like heap of raw metal where scrap-scavengers hunt for valuable machinery parts.

THE IRONBARK WOODS and SAWMILL

Stretching across the northern expanse of the main island lies a thick, resilient woodland known as the Ironbark Woods  The trees here have adapted to the mineral-rich, storm-swept soil, growing dense, iron-hard wood capable of standing up to the harsh northern gales.

Situated on the edge of the timberline is a sawmill which operates day and night. Goblins are constantly cutting down timber to feed Boomport’s endless demand for ship planks, scaffolding, and fuel for the Sludgeworks' furnaces.

THE WHISPERING STRAND

In stark contrast to the rest of the noisy archipelago, the eastern coast remains largely untouched by goblin industry - primarily out of superstitious fear. Known locally as the Whispering Strand, the eastern beaches are quiet, wind-scoured, and littered with smooth black stone and sea-glass.

Crumbling along the shoreline and partially submerged in the surf are mysterious, weathered stone structures built by an unknown, ancient race. The architecture is sharp, non-euclidean, and carved with strange glyphs that glow faintly during lightning storms. The goblins generally avoid scavenging here, claiming that machines bring "bad luck and dead sparks" near the ancient stones.
