The Aetherion server operates using a refined and carefully curated collection of plugins, each selected or developed to support performance, stability, and a rich gameplay experience. These plugins fall into three primary categories, each serving a distinct purpose in the overall framework.

Core Plugins

These are the backbone of the Aetherion ecosystem. Core plugins govern fundamental gameplay systems such as:

  • Economy mechanics
  • RPG, progression frameworks, dungeons framework, custom mobs and questing system.
  • Claims and land protection
  • Container and inventory security
  • Signs and Notification frameworks.

All core plugins are developed entirely in‑house by the Aetherion team. This ensures tight integration, full customization, and the ability to continuously adapt the mechanics to the unique design of our server.

ADMINISTRATIVE PLUGINS

Administrative plugins support the day‑to‑day operation and management of the server shards. These include:

  • Permission frameworks
  • Moderation and staff tools
  • Plugin and shard management utilities
  • Anti‑cheat and security systems

While not part of the gameplay experience, these tools are critical in maintaining a stable, fair, and well‑moderated environment.

THIRD‑PARTY PLUGINS

Aetherion proudly integrates a selection of exceptional community‑developed plugins. These additions enhance gameplay, introduce new systems, or provide quality‑of‑life improvements that complement our core framework. Third‑party plugins may include:

  • Additional assets and visual enhancements
  • Optional gameplay mechanics
  • Systems that expand player utility, interaction, or immersion
  • Other enhancements that align with our vision

We evaluate these plugins carefully to ensure compatibility and thematic fit with Aetherion’s universe.

CURRENT THIRD‑PARTY PLUGINS IN USE

Below is the list of third‑party plugins currently deployed across all server shards. Please note that these may be updated or removed if future changes to the core framework introduce conflicts or if their functionality is replaced by internal systems. Those plugins with a red status are either currently not working and awaiting some update, or have been put on hold until further notice.

WHat happens to a plugin if it is abandoned?

Unfortunately, there are times when third-party plugins that integrate well with our servers become abandoned by their original developers. As new game updates are released, these plugins can become outdated, unstable, or completely incompatible, forcing us to make difficult decisions regarding their future.

1) Retirement of the Plugin
In some cases, the most practical solution is to remove the plugin entirely from the server and discontinue its use. While this can be disappointing - especially for features that have become popular within the community - maintaining unsupported software can create long-term stability, security, and compatibility issues. When no viable path forward exists, retiring the plugin allows us to focus our resources on maintaining a reliable and enjoyable experience for all players.

2) Continuing Development and Maintenance
In other cases, a plugin may prove so valuable and widely used that removing it is simply not a viable option. When a feature has become an important part of the player experience, we evaluate whether it can be maintained internally.

For Java-based plugins, our preferred approach is often to develop our own replacement or take over maintenance where licensing permits. If the project primarily consists of asset and configuration files with little or no code, we can usually update and adapt the JSON configurations ourselves to ensure continued compatibility with future releases.

A great example of this is the NoCube Tavern System. Although it was an excellent addition to the server, active development eventually ceased, leaving it incompatible with newer updates. Rather than removing a feature that provided significant value to our players, we chose to maintain and enhance it ourselves. Through ongoing improvements and integration work, the system has evolved beyond its original form and is now a core component of Aetherion’s cooking and hospitality framework.

COMMUNITY contributions

While Aetherion’s core systems have been developed in-house, we would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the many talented members of the community whose contributions, feedback, and inspiration have helped shape the project.

A special thanks goes to ElJamonDeYorch, whose work was instrumental in the design of the Ethereal Guardians. He also created several armor sets that have become an important part of Aetherion’s visual identity.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to our former Minecraft development team for their unwavering support during the project's early stages. Their dedication and encouragement helped lay the foundation for what Aetherion has become today.

Additionally, we are grateful to the many active Hytale community members who have provided valuable feedback and ideas throughout development. Among those who have made particularly notable contributions are MKOutlaw, FoxyCCA, and many others whose support continues to inspire and motivate us.

We also highly encourage the community to explore the work of several talented creators who have influenced aspects of Aetherion’s development. Lordimass served as a major inspiration behind our dialogue system design, while Nicholas_LionRider and the highly inspiring WildTale mod provided valuable ideas that helped shape the wildlife and ecosystem concepts found throughout our world.

To everyone who has supported, inspired, tested, contributed, or shared feedback along the way - thank you. Aetherion is stronger because of this incredible community.
