The Void

The Void is a primordial force of entropy and corruption that exists beyond the known planes of Aetherion. It is not simply a physical space but a metaphysical phenomenon—a realm where the laws of creation unravel. The Void represents unmaking, the antithesis of elemental harmony, and is often described as a hunger that consumes light, matter, and even time itself.

The fall of the Sanctums and the rise of chaos in the future timeline are direct consequences of the Void’s corruption. The gods fear the Void because it cannot be bargained with or destroyed—only contained or delayed. The Last Sanctum was created as a failsafe against the Void’s expansion.

THE VOID AS AN ELEMENT

While traditionally considered an anti-element, some scholars and mystics argue that the Void is an element in its own right, representing absence and negation. In this interpretation:

  • Its essence is tied to oblivion, making it both alluring and terrifying for those who seek ultimate power.
  • Certain forbidden arts—like Voidbinding—attempt to harness this force, but at great cost to sanity and soul.

THE VOID AND VARYN

In the farthest reaches of existence - beyond the maps of Aetherion and even beyond the Ethereal Plane—there are whispers of a distant world where an entity known as Varyn dwells. Unlike mortals or gods, Varyn is said to command the Void itself, bending its entropy into structured power. Ancient texts in the Arcanum and Netherion archives reference “The Varyn Doctrine,” a cryptic philosophy suggesting the Void can be mastered without succumbing to madness. If Varyn truly exists, it means the Void is not just a destructive force but a potential element, one that can be wielded by those who dare.
