The Northern Desert is a vast expanse of barren dunes and cracked salt flats, marking the first step into the Scarab Desert’s unforgiving domain. Unlike the Scarab Desert’s mystical Avalonian Mountains and oasis sanctuaries, the Northern Desert is lifeless and harsh, with scorching winds and mirages that lure travelers into peril.
To the west, jagged mountain ranges rise like stone sentinels, hiding the floating city of Avlon among Avalonian peaks. To the east, another wall of mountains seals the desert’s edge, creating a natural corridor that funnels travelers deeper into the sands. This isolation makes the Northern Desert a strategic choke point for trade and military movement.
The Northern Desert is considered eternal and cursed, a place where even the gods left no blessing. Ancient waystones buried beneath the dunes suggest it was once a pilgrimage route for early sun-worshippers, possibly tied to Taar (War and Fire).
Sahrakai is a small, nomadic Dragonkin settlement deep within the wind‑scoured dunes of the Northern Desert. Built entirely of scaled hide tents, braided ropes, and sun‑bleached wooden frames, the village shifts location with the seasons, always following the cooler winds and the scarce desert resources. Its name means “Place of the Burning Breath” in old Dragonkin dialect, referring to both the relentless desert heat and the fiery resolve of its people.
At the center of the settlement lies the Ashal’Mir Oasis - “The Water of First Dawn” in old Dragonkin dialect. The Dragonkin believe this oasis was a gift from Ava, Goddess of Wind and Compassion - a single tear of mercy that fell during a time of great drought.
